Gerhard de Clercq’s winning submission for the Toradex Design Challenge is a standalone 3D printer. 3D printing is a revolutionary technology which lets you create three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. It is changing the way we create, buy, or manufacture goods – this technology is indeed taking the world by storm. While 3D printing is exciting, it is also very expensive. This project’s aim was to create a 3D printer with good functionality and an exceptional next generation user interface using fairly standard components to curb down the final cost of the printer.

The standalone multi-touch 3D can load, manipulate, and process a raw 3D model without the help of an external device like a PC.
